the cape winemakers guild, south africa’s foremost association of boutique winemakers, is seeking to appoint a marketing & partnership manager to the team. this position will be at the heart of the guild's relationships, events and communications and will require a blend of vision, creativity & execution.
you will own the people and experience side of the guild's events programme — from engaging with international trade and event hosts, to selecting venues, shaping event formats, curating guest experiences and ensuring the right people are in the room. you will also build and nurture the guild's sponsor and strategic partnerships, identify opportunities to grow the guild's profile and contribute ideas that take the brand and its reach beyond the current season.
you will have the freedom to own your area of responsibility — and the accountability that comes with it. the position reports to and interacts directly with the committee and works closely together with the logistics & operations manager, who will manage the physical execution of the events & related activities.
duties will include:
• building meaningful relationships with trade buyers, event hosts, media, sponsors and other influential industry stakeholders — locally and internationally.
• representing the guild with confidence and professionalism in south africa and abroad.
• shaping the content, format and experience of cwg tastings, dinners and events.
• leading venue inspections and making recommendations on the right setting and experience for each occasion.
• curating guest lists and managing invitations and communications with members, buyers and media.
• building and managing sponsor relationships, including developing and negotiating sponsorship packages and deliverables.
• developing media relationships and coordinating coverage around the auction and guild events.
• owning the execution of newsletters and auction-season communications.
• guiding media releases and contributing to the guild's marketing collateral.
• looking beyond the next event and identifying opportunities to grow the guild's profile, influence and buyer/trade base over the longer term.
• conceptualizing new ideas, evaluation & execution in collaboration with the chairman & committee
• work closely with the logistics & operations manager to turn plans into execution
the position will ideally suit someone who is genuinely comfortable in the global world of fine wine, who naturally builds relationships and makes people feel at ease. who communicates with ease takes ownership without waiting to be asked and enjoys bringing people, ideas and opportunities together. most importantly, you believe in the essence of the guild, the platform through which it provides access to excellence & ultimately supporting the future of south african winemaking.
bring your curiosity, your energy, your ideas and your love of wine. tell us what you would bring to the cape winemakers guild, and how you would help us build relationships, create exceptional experiences and take the guild forward.
